52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Firebrick

Alas, we are inching ever closer to the end of Luna Jubilee’s 52 Weeks of Color Challenge. This week we have firebrick. Actually quite a nice color sending us gently into the fall season, at least here in the northern hemisphere. A friend mentioned the town of Staffordshire in England that has a very well-known history in pottery and china manufacturing. So I decided to do a little pottery making myself. One fun thing I found was the pottery design kiosks at Lantian. You can design and purchase your own pots there, two of mine are on the back shelf in my first photo. And since I was getting artistic, I figured, why limit the art to pottery? I have been waiting for the right moment to wear this great tattoo from Wicked Gear, and here it is!

Finesmith, You’re So Fine, You’re So Fine You Blow My Mind

The new Noir set from Finesmith is such a stunner and it immediately came to mind when I saw the new Adva skirts that Yula released for 55L Thursdays. I admit to sometimes walking around the Finesmith store just looking at the imaginative and avant-garde designs that are always on display. Not a bad way to spend an evening!

A Hot Mesh

School started for me this week and it has meant a lot of running around crazy and wondering how so much work can pile up quite so quickly. Tonight I wanted a break and found it at the lovely Sontuki sim. I am still figuring out the intricacies of mesh clothing and one of my favorite items that I am finally getting around to blogging is this long skirt from Jane. I love the movement and swing in this design.

Got to get out while I can and get me some sunshine!!!

Also new is this casual ponytail from Alice Demonia at the Alice Project. Love it!

You look fantastic!! Fabulous outfit and some wonderful shots.

Coastal Craze

When my husband got a job on the East Coast about six years ago, I was less than thrilled. I am a western girl at heart, I like my empty spaces, and there’s not a lot of that on the East Coast. The other thing that didn’t thrill me was the ocean. I liked it, but I liked being far enough away from it that it’s not a threat. I really haven’t done well at getting used to not being able to see very far around me, or at being around so many people. But I have learned to love living by the ocean. The sea is one of the only things that makes me relax (except for last weekend). So today I was lamenting the end of summer and beginning of classes and found a lovely sea-side location called Mahina Cove and I enjoyed strolling around and enjoying the sea-scape!

What A Mesh!

After a couple of days without power we are finally getting back up and running here on the East Coast. And just in time, too! Rebel Hope released a new mesh gown today—I am seriously loving me the mesh! This one is a lovely, flowing gown and fits like a second skin.

I felt the dress needed some pretty spectacular jewelry to go along with it and fortunately I had just the thing–the Precious Set from Lazuri. The colors can be changed to match whatever you are wearing—so today I obviously went with a lovely dark ruby. And I had so much fun playing with the different color options for the headpiece on my hair today, an elegant creation from Plume. Now there has got to be a ball somewhere that I am suitably dressed for!

    Wow, gorgeous!

52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Liver

Okay, so this color sounds disgusting but is actually just a dark brown/grey. As I was thinking about it I was reminded of John Johnston, aka Jeremiah Johnson, aka Liver-Eating Johnson. My mother was a Native American studies major so I can’t claim this as my personal knowledge and would probably know nothing about it except for her!

Liver Eating Johnson. Now, this was a tough, American wild man. The legend surrounding this guy is pretty incredible, but the one that goes along with this week’s color is his vendetta against the Crow Indians. It is said that he ate the liver of every Crow he killed. More reliable historical sources indicate that this all came from a comment he made after killing a man, and that he never actually ate a human liver. Just remember to trust reliable sources, kids!

But look at his picture—I wouldn’t want to have gotten on his bad side, would you?

Yeah, I thought not.

So now you know what’s coming, and I think Bruce has finally had it with me on this one—he claims I am making him look like a serial killer. But seriously, this is one bad-ass mountain man, don’t-cha think???

For all you film fans, there is also the gorgeous Robert Redford, who played this character in the 1972 film Jeremiah Johnson. I am not opposed to watching him in any of his incarnations. Winking smile

Bruce is wearing:

Outfit: Shabby Chic Fur Trapper (from Marketplace)

Gun: Juanos Designs

What a story. What a look . What a perfect fit!

  3. bourbiedoll

Oh, I don’t know. I wouldn’t worry about Bruce being a serial killer, unless I was a bear 😛 But wow! What a fantastic mountain man look! Again, Robert needs to look out, cuz Bruce is close on his heels 😉

  4. Anichka Savira

    Great shots! Fantastic post.

  5. gilliangalicia

What a fine post!! Cannibalism, liver clothing, AND Robert Redford. Touchdown!!

  6. astalianda

I love how liver is bringing so many to the darker side of stories for obvious reasons. Awesome job!

  7. Nicandra Laval

Hi Eliza,i am pleased to know what guns ( you even told us where we can buy haha) we need to wear when we want eat liver after killing someone 😉 super post …big compliment..greetings Nicandra

  8. usuallyblonde

Is Robert Redford ever not dashing and handsome?

    Great stories and look :-).

  9. Laura18 Streeter

Very cool! There’s always something to learn from everyone, love the historical take you put on this one straight out of your personal realm!

  10. Laila Laperriere

    FANTASTIC post!
As far as the real Mr Johnson goes, he looks like he would have eaten anyones liver! LOL
Love the displays of the Mr Johnson’s you gave us, and I love me some Mr Redford!!!!!! =)

Very creative Eliza. Your guy is one sexy but scary looking mountain man! And woot for Robert Redford!

And The Livin’ Is Easy

For the last week I’ve been rehearsing a production of Gershwin’s Porgy and Bess. It’s a rotten story, like most operas, but the music is ridiculously catchy and you can’t keep it out of your head. When I saw this dress I thought it was perfect for a slow summer day that Clara sings about at the beginning of the show and then Bess later reprises. In fact this could be a dress that one of those soloists might don for the performance itself!

I was a worried that I might make the dress look like one of those multi-colored popsicles, but the colors flow and I love the bright colored combination. To finish this look off  I chose a blue zircon set from Endra Graves and a relatively new long hairstyle from Kavar Cleanslate.

Don’t Mesh With Me

This dress reminded me of those side by side celebrity photos you see online with the title “Who wore it better?”  I am sure this dress will be in the feeds all over the place in the next couple of days so you will all get to answer that question! Although in all honesty, the whole idea of mesh is that you can look good in your dress no matter what your body type. In this photo I am just loving being able to take a long, purposeful stride without my legs poking through the fabric of my dress. And look, no waist seam, either! And Vincenca Rosca has a lovely set for the new cycle at Designer’s Circle and it went perfectly with the mesh tank dress, again from Jane. One thing I always love about VR’s work is that there are always color change options on the jewelry and the texture changes are smooth and always very high quality.

Meshing Around

Janie Marlowe released her first mesh clothing designs last night and so, intrigued, I headed over to check it out. What a wonderful step forward for SL Fashion! Fabric that fits the body, moves with the body, and doesn’t make random body parts stick out when you are sitting or walking or whatever. I see flowy skirts and naturally moving jewelry in the future! But for now, I am just loving looking at my bottom and not having it be split in half by the animation. See?

Not a bad posterior to begin with…

Now just look at that bottom! Just as is should be, no right angle bends where my bottom should be!!! And, I might add, nice boot cut leg bottoms with no prim attachments!

Even with a serious bent animation the fabric stretches naturally. Now where is that book I was reading?

There is a lovely variety of new mesh designs at Jane so get over there and check them out! You’ll be seeing more from me very soon, because I just can’t stay away!

MEMO TO ALL: If you do not have a mesh viewer then you will look like you are a can of sardines or something. Also any friends you have that are not using a mesh viewer will see you as a can of sardines. So make sure you are running V2 or Kristen’s and go have some fun!

When Summer’s End Is Nighing

So here’s an end of roaming
On eves when autumn nighs:
The ear too fondly listens
For summer’s parting sighs,
And then the heart replies.

-A.E. Housman, Last Poems, XXXIX

This crisp and lovely jacket from PHILO pushed my mood even more firmly in the direction of the end of summer—the sea-like color, however, reminds me that the end has not come yet! And since I was thinking of things passed and things to come, I chose to wear Jamman’s Zodiac sign necklace. I show my own sign, Leo, here, but if I wanted to be an Aries or whatever the necklace includes all the signs of the zodiac.

The new cycle began today at the Designer’s Circle and I am wearing two of the new offerings today—first my pants from a new outfit called Dina from Crank Design, and my bag from the supremely talented JaneDark Miles at Beauty Code. The bag is available in black and white, for 5oL. I actually used the white version in a post a while back, you can see it here.
