52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Amaranth

This week the Boston Symphony is presenting Porgy and Bess. This is one of the greatest American musical works and the cast is brilliant. Laquita Mitchell plays Bess, a drug-addicted woman who latches on to men for protection and money. Set in 1920’s Charleston, she was likely living out one of the only options available to a single woman at that time, drug addicted or not. So our Bess would have been dressed for Catfish row, but Laquita…now, she needs a concert gown to make sure all eyes follow her on stage at Symphony Hall. And once she opens that mouth and starts singing, you won’t be able to look anywhere else.

Congrats to Carmilla Mirabeau, who wins the Liz gown from last week!

Next week I will give away a 500L gift card to Caroline’s Jewelry. Yay!

Porgy and Bess, most haunting of American musical dramas, beautifully depicted by Eliza in this photo.
