Taking The Leap

The buzz around my office is that the school year is going by amazingly fast and that 3rd quarter feels especially crunched. It’s barely the end of February and already we are working on course planning and textbooks for next September. There is a widely held theory at my school that pretty much once you hit Thanksgiving it’s all practically over for the year. It’s a preposterous idea, but this year it feels like there some truth to it. Keeping up is a challenge, and leaves less time for other things, as is pretty obvious from my blog slow-down. So I am glad for a leap day this year, although I am not sure that in the end it really works out as extra time. But spring break is coming, so that will  be a nice chance to regroup and remember things outside of work, like my name and where I live and that I do have a husband, and as I recall I kind of like him. So when Vero Modero sent out the notices for the new spring collection, I was more than ready to jump on board!

I am such a fan when Bou makes casual clothes, they always look so perfect and I always wish I had them in RL. This is an outfit that I would love to wear to school, but I am afraid I would get chalk dust and whiteboard marker all over it, so maybe it would  be better suited to prancing around some fabulous European city.

My mesh necklace and ring are from the fabulous Maxi Gossamer, who will be participating in March Mesh Madness, which opens tomorrow. Both of these items will be available at the fair…don’t pass up the chance to check out her amazing designs!

Willing Suspension

My husband and I watch the new-ish series called Nikita on the CW. Based on the excellent 1990 Luc Besson film La femme Nikita, it’s an assassin-turned-rogue-who-is-out-to-take-the-big-bad-covert-ops-organization-down kind of story. It is actually well written and acted, and the actors are pretty believable, particularly Melinda Clarke, who plays the chilling and sadistic Amanda. However, the title character, while I do like the writing and back-story, is a little harder to believe. Maggie Q plays Nikita, and while she is a brilliant little actress and stunningly beautiful, she cannot weigh more than eighty pounds soaking wet. And she regularly takes down men that weigh 200-300 pounds, usually armed as well. Just. doesn’t. happen.  In the first episode she assassinates a huge disreputable guy with her bare hands in public while wearing only a bikini. Probably every heterosexual male’s hottest fantasy, but still. Really?

Anyway, though it stretches the imagination a little too much, it’s an entertaining show and I like watching the fight scenes. All this came to mind when I received two particular items this week. One is this amazing new hair from Likeli. Seriously. This hair is amazing, there is just no other word for it. I would love hair like this, although it would get in the way of punching people. The other is this teeny tiny dress from Zeljkogirl Solo which I believe would be very hard to kick butt in, but Nikita does it regularly, and sometimes in high heels. And when the hand-fighting goes south, there is always this no-nonsense (and free, I might add) pistol from AGrid Aftermath.

Topaz Adjust 5 came out this week and I have been playing around with the filter options….what do you think?

52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Rainbows for Luna

How much do I love thee, Luna? Let me count the ways:

1. For coming up with this challenge in the first place.

2. For taking the time to choose out the colors.

3. For creating and moderating the best in-world group ever!

4. For cheering us on and commiserating when we were color-hating.

5. For helping us out when we couldn’t figure out what color a banana was.

6. For teaching me how to figure out windlight, screenshots and computer graphics.

7. For taking such amazing photos…I couldn’t wait to see yours every week.

8. For being so encouraging to all color-challengers.

9. For your fabulous sense of humor.

10. For letting yourself be cajoled into round TWO!

I could go on, my dear, but you have other rainbows to investigate! Always remember how much you are loved.

Feeling Corny

There are plenty of fall-themed regions to visit this year, but if you are in the mood for a good old cornfield complete with ghosts then check it out, it makes for some fun wandering about.

For my cornfield wandering I chose this adorable tie-dress by Gocha Merlin. I love the details and the cute floral accents. And the sentiment written across the back is a good one to remember at any time! Walking in a cornfield also requires good footwear and these adorable boots fit the bill exactly with their subtle summer-to-fall coloring.

My skin is from a new-to-me designer, Gianni Broda. This beautiful skin named Godiva was only 30L and once I put it on I did a double take. Here’s how it went in my mind:
-30L? Well, at least the G of the Alphabet Challenge won’t break the bank…
-Wait. Only 30L? For a skin??? Let’s have a look….
-Holy heck!!! 30L??? It’s gorgeous!

This is more a mature looking skin, but still retains a healthful smoothness.  I particularly love the bone structure across the bridge of the nose and the cheeks.

I go out walking, after midnight
Out in the moonlight
Just like we used to do
I’m always walking, after midnight
Searching for you

-“Walking After Midnight”,  Patsy Cline

As long as this is the case, I may as well walk beautifully in this gorgeous mesh gown from Mashooka.

I am also still loving the new Catalina skin from Apple May. I may not take it off for a good long while.

This summer I was thrilled to reconnect with a friend that I met as a teenager living in Guatemala. I wasn’t thrilled at the time to be living there, but this wonderful girl made it so much better than it might have been. Analilí is one of those heart-stoppingly beautiful women that people actually pause and stare at on the street. You all know or have seen these women, I am sure. Maybe you are one of those women! But Analilí also happens to be one of the most purely good people I have ever met, and it shines out of her whole countenance. It was disconcerting but also comforting to see that, after fifteen years and a couple of kids, she has not lost that incandescent beauty. And I realized how much I had missed her. That two-hour visit was one of the highlights of my whole summer.

All this came to mind when I put on the new Kat skin from Apple May Designs. See for yourself:

Now, my friend is one of those ladies who would look fabulous wearing a potato sack, but she would wear this lovely mesh dress from Yasum to perfection.

Finesmith, You’re So Fine, You’re So Fine You Blow My Mind

The new Noir set from Finesmith is such a stunner and it immediately came to mind when I saw the new Adva skirts that Yula released for 55L Thursdays. I admit to sometimes walking around the Finesmith store just looking at the imaginative and avant-garde designs that are always on display. Not a bad way to spend an evening!

When Summer’s End Is Nighing

So here’s an end of roaming
On eves when autumn nighs:
The ear too fondly listens
For summer’s parting sighs,
And then the heart replies.

-A.E. Housman, Last Poems, XXXIX

This crisp and lovely jacket from PHILO pushed my mood even more firmly in the direction of the end of summer—the sea-like color, however, reminds me that the end has not come yet! And since I was thinking of things passed and things to come, I chose to wear Jamman’s Zodiac sign necklace. I show my own sign, Leo, here, but if I wanted to be an Aries or whatever the necklace includes all the signs of the zodiac.

The new cycle began today at the Designer’s Circle and I am wearing two of the new offerings today—first my pants from a new outfit called Dina from Crank Design, and my bag from the supremely talented JaneDark Miles at Beauty Code. The bag is available in black and white, for 5oL. I actually used the white version in a post a while back, you can see it here.

What a sharp look! And such a lovely jacket. The excerpt of the poem? Took my breath away!
