I found this sweater and skirt set at the Cosmopolitan Sales Room this round and it felt like the right outfit for starting out a new year—mindful of the temperature, but sparkly and full of hope.

I am always delighted when Luciayes Magic releases a new skin applier because they are some of my favorites for the Lelutka mesh heads. Today I am wearing Georgie on the newly released Simone head from Lelutka. Luciayes draws such interesting faces and I’m impressed by the bold lines and sharp angles of this one. Freya Dubled’s shoulder-length layers frame this face perfectly.

Going o’er the hills, through the milk-white snow,
Heard I ewes bleat, while the wind did blow.

Nowell, nowell, nowell, nowell sing we clear!
Holpen are all folk on Earth, born is God’s Son so dear!
Nowell, nowell, nowell, nowell sing we loud!
God today hath poor folk raised and cast a-down the proud.

When Luna Jubilee asked what skating poses we wanted her to make, I asked her to make one clutching the wall, because that’s what I do most often at the skating rink. However, she clearly had much more poised poses in mind. My puffy jacket with it’s pocketed sleeves uses the bottom half of one of her lovely gliding skating poses—something I can only dream of. Goji’s Sweet16 legwarmers keep me toasty and will help pad the knees  when the inevitable fall occurs.

One of my favorite moments in film is the opening sequence of The Last of the Mohicans, where the tracking down of an elk is not the slow, careful thing we often think of when we think of hunting, but rather a wild dash through the forest, trying to keep up with an animal with twice the legs and twice the speed of the world’s fastest human. That Daniel Day-Lewis is bounding through he forest shirtless may or may not have relevance to my enjoyment of this scene. Sands Leavitt takes a fantasy approach to hunting and tracking with his beautiful Archer outfit, available at We <3 Roleplay. Also at We <3 Roleplay are the marvelous Sylvan Ears from BentBox.

The temperatures in the northeastern United States have taken a decided dip in the last week. I can’t say I am sorry about that, but I will be sorry not to be able to wear cute summer dresses like this one from Neve until next year. I took my photo at the beautiful Flux Sur Mer sim, which is decked out in blustery autumnal bliss.

I have been meaning to get to this sweet pose by Luna Jubilee since it was released at the Men’s Dept. this month…but it wasn’t until Winter Thorn’s lovely Lisbeth Garden Blanket set was released at Collabor88 that I had the perfect setting for it. Thanks to Stewart for helping me with the pose today.

I took the plunge this week for my sixth rezday to try one of the Lelutka mesh heads. I chose the Karin head and used the Glam Affair Avril applier from the Shiny Shabby event for my photo today. I have been wearing it for a couple of days now, so I am getting used to looking at it.

I haven’t been very interested in mesh heads due to the lack of individualization possible with them. No doubt they are beautifully crafted, but I am just too big a fan of having more choices about my face. Since my view of myself is always changing, the lack of robust change possible with mesh heads makes them a less attractive choice for me. Even with different skin tone and different styling, you can still tell it’s the same facial structure no matter what appliers you add.  Wearing the same skin on ten different shapes provides much more variety, to me, than ten different skins on the same shape, which the applier model encourages. For those who feel differently, I respect that view and wish them happy head meshing. This is only my experience and I don’t presume to tell other people what to like and dislike.

The other big experience I had was all my friends telling me that I didn’t look like myself. Every single person who mentioned it said the same thing. I change my SL avatar face all the time, so I don’t think that there is any one “me” face (although I admit to not taking off Aida Ewing’s Katra for quite some time now); but there is something about the customization of facial features that allows “Eliza” to come through and be recognized, whereas the mesh head made me look like a different person, and unrecognizable to my friends. And there was nothing I could do to change it besides pick a different color of lipstick or eyeshadow. The last downside is that one is entirely dependent on having skin makers who make appliers for the mesh heads. The list is growing, but still pretty limiting in terms of what is available skin-wise in SL, particularly for fantasy or sci-fi skins.

On the other hand, the head itself is very beautiful. This is a lovely face:

Even if I do wish that the lips could be made a little less full and less pouty according to my personal taste, I cannot deny how gorgeous the workmanship on this mesh head is. The appliers worked flawlessly and were easy to manage. The options for hiding and showing makeup, eyelashes, ears, etc. are ingenious. It was fun to play with. Angles and harsh windlight effects are reduced with the mesh head.

But it isn’t me.

I likely won’t wear a mesh head when hanging out with friends, but for photography and fashion purposes, it is an interesting area to explore. Will I purchase another mesh head? Maybe. The investment is far more than the return can be until customization is possible, but it’s a fun accessory. Will I continue to purchase appliers for the mesh head I currently own? Probably. For taking SL photographs and showcasing items mesh heads can be valuable for modeling tattoos or makeups that I want to show on my blog in the future, because they are definitely a new and interesting trend in SL fashion. I look forward to what the future brings.

  1. Harper Beresford

I have tried the heads with several appliers and it’s really a toss up. I have made some lovely “looks” that don’t look like Harper but are very pleasing. I would say the Glam Affair skins don’t do a lot for me on these heads–they seem flat and kind of doll like, which is not me. However, YS&YS has been really gorgeous on them as has Skinnery. If I had to wear one, I would go with YS&YS or possibly League and would feel pretty and almost like myself.

  2. Eliza

I will definitely be trying different appliers! It’s a pretty look, no doubt, but I am thinking they will be more a cosmetic option for me than a staple. Thanks for the recommendation!

Today we have another of Luna Jubilee’s great poses. This one is available at Luna’s main store as part of the Romp event. It is ALSO Luna’s birthday weekend, and that means awesome stuff. Right now you can join the !bang VIP group for only 5L. Luna’s VIP group gifts are always awesome and through the group you will also find out about events that she hosts on her sim. Head on over to check it out! And thanks to Danny for helping me with the pose.

I’ve had this pose from Luna Jubilee on my to blog list for a couple of weeks and finally today I was able to meet up with my friend Danny and make it happen. While we were shooting, Danny decided that he looked like he was thinking about some other woman in this pose instead of the one draped all over him. Curious, I asked who the other woman was that he was thinking about. He replied immediately, “Joni Mitchell.” Now, a girl just can’t get mad about that.  Anyway, he fiddled around a bit with the pose until he felt he looked properly attentive. I’ve included both photos here. Thanks to Danny for the help…I am glad he had Joni to get him through it.
