My mistress' eyes are nothing like the sun;
Coral is far more red than her lips' red;
If snow be white, why then her breasts are dun;
If hairs be wires, black wires grow on her head.
I have seen roses damasked, red and white,
But no such roses see I in her cheeks;
And in some perfumes is there more delight
Than in the breath that from my mistress reeks.
I love to hear her speak, yet well I know
That music hath a far more pleasing sound;
I grant I never saw a goddess go;
My mistress when she walks treads on the ground.
And yet, by heaven, I think my love as rare
As any she belied with false compare.
-William Shakespeare, Sonnet 130
This sonnet was always very dear to me because I imagine the lady Shakespeare describes as being a lot like many average women out there—not the most beautiful or amazing looking woman in the world (or even in the neighborhood!). However, his love for her makes her beautiful to him regardless of how the outward body appears. Nonsense? Perhaps, but comforting nonsense, in any case. And there are those for whom it also happens to be true, the lucky ducks!
Lano Ling released the second generation of his classic eyes recently and they are beauties! One thing I love about Lano’s style is the color blending. Look closely and check out the variegated colors within the eye. Another new release is my adorable smocked top from Acid & Maia—so perfect for these lengthening days in the northern hemisphere!
