There are two intersections I cross every day on my walk to school. Providence is an urban area so I usually end up parking about a half a mile from school since there is nowhere to park any closer. Hence the intersections. One of them is quite safe, à la crossing guard, but the other is a busy four-way intersection. And of course, I am constantly running across it even when the sign says don’t walk. I do this despite the fact that a colleague of mine did, in fact, get hit by a car in that intersection, although that was when the walk sign was actually on. I’m an even worse jaywalker in Boston, where if you wait for a walk sign you’re likely never going to get anywhere.
Would that I wore such elegant clothes (especially shoes…don’t even get me started about teacher shoes…) to school, but at least Eliza can look stylish as she dashes across the street in New York.
