52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Feldgrau

In front of the barracks,
In front of the main gate,
Stood a lamppost,
If it still stands out front,
So will we see each other there again,
By the lamppost we’ll stand,
As before, Lili Marleen.

Our two shadows
Looked like one.
That we were so much in love,
Anyone could see at a glance.
And everyone will see it,
When we stand by the lamppost,
As before, Lili Marleen.

Already called the guard,
“They’re blowing taps.
That could cost you three days!”
“Comrade, I’ll be right there.”
Then we said farewell,
How much would I have rather gone with you,
With you, Lili Marleen.

It knows your footsteps,
Your beautiful walk.
It burns every evening,
Although it forgot me long ago.
And if a mishap should befall me,
Who will stand by the lamppost,
With you, Lili Marleen?

Out of the silent space,
Out of the depths of the earth,
Lifts me as in a dream
Your loving mouth.
When the nocturnal mists swirl,
I will be standing by the lamppost,
As before, Lili Marleen.

Lili Marleen, German Love Song

Thanks to Stewart for the idea this week. Since our color got a bit military I made him dress up as a soldier. This song was a favorite of both German and Allied soldiers during World War II. At the bottom of this post I have pasted a video for anyone wanting to hear the real thing!

Congratulations to Caroline Endersleigh, who wins the Maitreya dress from last week. Send me an IM in-world to let me know which color you would like!

For next week, I will give away a gift card from Sn@tch. Ivey Deschanel is one of the great cornerstones of SL fashion and her recent mesh work is to die for. You know the drill!

Love the idea! You’re a beautiful Lili Marlen:)

  2. Nicandra Laval

War is terrible..as even can be felt in the sad song too. Mixed feelings seeing the german uniform too many innocent people died because of that terrible war,Eliza..but you look beautiful as Lili Marleen

  3. Alexandra

This is fantastic ! You actually show the essence of feldgrau. Love your Lilli Marlene re-enactment unter die Lanterne.

  4. Softpaw Sommer

Wow, your photos are so romantic.

  5. Sama Yalin

Love the first picture: romantic and also a bit melancholic. There must have been many couples like that, where the young man never returned home.

  6. Rudhmellowen

WOW, just wow!!! I love the romance and the history

52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Jonquil

I love this color. There’s something about yellow that provides an instant mood lift. This week a quiet, beach-side moment was in order, and this great parasol and beach towel set was perfect.

Congrats to Ygrey Auer, who wins the Vintage Fair set from Tiffy Vella! Since the days of summer are waning, everyone should take a beach moment, so I will give one beach towel and parasol set away next week!

52 Weeks of Color Challenge: Dandelion

The winners of my Alli&Ali hair challenge last week are:

Tigist Sapphire

Laila Laperriere

Cari Teardrop

Congrats! Send me an email or IM and let me know what style and color you’d like!

So now it’s true confession time—who used to rub dandelion pollen all over their faces when they were little? My mom used to get so mad at my brothers and sisters and I because anytime in June that we were playing outside invariably saw us come home with yellow hands and faces. Rezzie Luckstone’s sunny dandelion tee-shirt brought back lots of springtime memories:

If you haven’t been over to Izzie Button’s store to see how she has decked out her sim for spring, get over there asap! The place is gorgeous!

One of my favorite things I am wearing today has to be my mesh sneakers from Hoc Industries. I found these at the Festival of Sin and I haven’t taken them off since! There are about a million different color combinations and do they work for girls or guys??? Oh, yes, they do! So this week I’m going to give away three pair. Just leave your comment below by Friday, March 2nd.

A fantastic group gift from Miel inspired me to do a bit of trekking around my cabin this week:

Please no catcalls from you experienced snow-shoers out there about my stride! My outfit is from Severed Garden and my red cheeks and dry lips are again from Miss Izzie Button. This girl needs to get herself some Chapstick!

After all that it was time to go in and sit by the Christmas tree and relax a bit. This tree is from Cierra Anatine at Kismet. I am a bit particular about my Christmas trees and the truth is that there are just not a lot that really look like a tree as much as a bunch of linked prims in SL. This one is my favorite this year, with it’s perfectly wound ribbons and individual ornaments. A word of warning though, this tree packs a punch at 126 prims. There is a basic version with no ornaments that doesn’t use quite so many prims. Wonder what’s in those boxes, hmmmmmm?

One of my advisees at school was expressing some angst recently at the fact that no high school boys like her. Rye is 6 feet tall and has legs up to her ears and is truly one of the most spectacular-looking girls I have ever met. And she’s fifteen. It doesn’t help that she looks like she’s twenty-five. How to tell a girl like this that all she has to do is wait? That the time will soon come when no one is going to be able to notice anyone else when she is around? And is your academic advisor really the person you want to have tell you that you are beautiful?  At fifteen she doesn’t care about in a few years and the now is all-encompassing. Oh, I do remember that. But really, it IS normal for sophomore boys to be totally clueless when it comes to girls. I see it every day. I hope she recognizes that, and remembers.

Rye has hair just like this, long and thick and wavy—maybe Truth Hawks was thinking of someone like Rye when he created this design. Rye also has a beautiful, individual face. When I put on the new Wendy skin from Unique it immediately reminded me of her. I have always liked the glow in Nany Merlin’s skins and I also like the delicate bone structure, particularly along the bridge of the nose and brow ridges. This skin is more than up to her standard, with it’s beautifully shaped nose and soft texture.

My mother used to need to get away at times for a few days and just be by herself. (Well, if you had eight kids you would too!) Thank goodness I have a dad who understood completely and gave her the time she needed. I have nothing like her excuse, but I have inherited the desire to go away sometimes where there is no one around but me so that I can deal with my own thoughts. Usually this urge occurs in the fall and heading towards winter. Although with this winter storm that hit the East Coast this weekend, it seems like we have skipped autumn and jumped straight to winter. Maybe it is a hibernation instinct. And I never actually get to go away and be by myself, but I can imagine, right?

Well today I was wandering around looking for empty autumny places and found the perfect retreat at Totem Flow’s Autumn Hideaway. Totem has combined some gorgeous landscaping with charming decorative detail. I wanted to move in immediately—or at least curl up and stay awhile!

The adorable cottage is from the talented Winter Thorn and I have to confess I went out and bought it immediately. I may have to create my own little hidey-hole somewhere. For the past few days I have been wearing the beautiful new Tekla skin from LAQ and it is becoming one of my favorites. My vibrantly colored sweater is a recent mesh release from Jada Humby.

I honestly think there is no limit to how enamored I am of Janie Marlowe’s work. I think JANE makes up about a third of my truly out-of-control inventory. But seriously, I could not pass up this adorable new dress. And the new Laurel Cottage kitchen from Winter Thorn is the perfect backdrop—I would have worn an apron but I didn’t want to cover up that precious owl! Okay, moving on now, cute quota for the day is filled!
